About Liz.
Seven years ago, I set off to University in the UK to study Physiotherapy. In the whirlwind of my first year, I suffered from chronic kidney infections, Glandular fever and shortly after meningitis. Luckily, I was home for Christmas when the meningitis hit and I was rushed to hospital as sepsis was beginning to occur. A year continuing on I found myself to be home and completely bed bound.
During the year I was home, I did everything I could to get myself back to health. Yoga, pilates and nutrition were what I focused on. Through this, I did a personal training course and various pilates teacher training courses in Dublin. Six years on, I’m still teaching pilates today while also developing more skills and becoming a yoga teacher. Even though physiotherapy did not work out for me, I’m a strong believer that everything happens for a reason. Pilates and yoga served so much to me in my darkest times and it feels so great to help others too.
As soon as I started teaching, I knew I had found my passion helping others through exercise to deal with whatever life threw at them. However, silently I was struggling. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2017. Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues. My way of describing it to someone is like having barbed wire wrapped all over your body with bricks on your shoulders so heavy that it feels impossible to move.
From the day I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, I set out on a task to find the remedy rather than the cure for the disease. The cure is for the scientists! Years of trial and error resulting in crazy diets, various forms of exercise and going to every kind of health professional you can think. Rheumatologists, physicians, homeopaths, naturopaths, acupuncturists, physiotherapists, dieticians, chiropractors, sacro-lumbar therapists you name it, I’ve tried it. From each, I took a bit of knowledge as well as developing on my own skills through holistic yoga teacher training, meditation and sound healing therapy training.
From years and years of exploration, I began to heal myself. I found a remedy that worked. I needed to take my body out of sympathetic nervous system that was attacking and bring it into the parasympathetic.
Through my own fight, I realised I also became extremely passionate about helping others. Whether you're contending with a chronic illness, recovering from long COVID, striving to live in the present moment or navigating stress management, we're united in our pursuit of a life filled with vitality and balance.
